David Pierce is finishing his first term as the State Senator from District 5, which is comprised of Canaan, Charlestown, Claremont, Cornish, Enfield, Hanover, Lebanon, Lyme, and Plainfield. He serves on the Commerce and Public & Municipal Affairs Committees. In his first term, David was the leading advocate for campaign finance reform, abolishing the death penalty, and voting rights.
Before being elected to the Senate, David was a member of the New Hampshire House from 2006-2012 where he served on the committees for Election Law, Redistricting, and Legislative Administration. He wrote and advocated for many bills while a member of the House, including bills in support of marriage equality and voting rights.
David received the NH Citizen Alliance Legislator of the Year Award and the NH Democratic Party’s Legislator of the Year Award. He serves as a member of the Legislative Committee for the New Hampshire Coalition to abolish the Death Penalty, is a member of the Upper Valley board of directors of Child and Family Services and is the moderator for the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College.
David attended Baylor University as an undergraduate and George Washington University for his law degree and his master’s degree in business. He has been admitted to the New Hampshire, California and Pennsylvania bars and earned his CPA license in the early 1990s. He lives in Lebanon with his two daughters, Emma and Grace.
